Nothing to do with coaching. Nothing to do with business.
This one has to do with family.
For a long time, being the person who could step in was just part of who I was.
I spent years in nonprofit work, missions, coaching, and other service-oriented spaces. I was used to helping people through hard things. Figuring things out. Seeing what needed to happen next.
After a while, you get good at it.
You start noticing what people need before they say it.
You learn how to anticipate problems.
You become the person people call when something needs to be handled.
And honestly, there is a certain satisfaction in being that person.
You know how to help.
You know how to make things better. You know how to get things moving again.
Except I started realizing that I was bringing that same instinct home with me.
And family is different.
Family is not a problem to solve.
It is not a situation to manage.
It is not a place where being the one with the answer automatically makes things better.
Sometimes the person you love does not need you to fix anything.
Sometimes they need you to sit there.
Sometimes they need to make a decision you would not make.
Sometimes they need to make a mistake you wish you could prevent.
And sometimes you have to watch it happen.
That part is hard.
Especially when you are used to stepping in.
